Where the grades come from

Every grade is produced by the same automated checks, run the same way, on every business's public website. Of the 4,076 we graded, 9 reached an A and 1,494 landed on a D or F. The methodology page lists every check and its weight, and explains how to request a correction or removal — we answer those within five business days.

Who runs this, and what we sell

ShoreGrade is run by Headway, which sells website and marketing services to local businesses. That is a plain conflict of interest and worth saying outright, so here is what we hold ourselves to: being a Headway client changes nothing about how a site is measured, no business can pay to raise a grade or to be listed or removed from a ranking, and when a customer asks us to pass on a job we match on trade, town and who is taking work — never on grade.
